Book: How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
This fall our BCcampus Book Club will be a hub for book club leaders to both share and garner skills in facilitating discussions about the difference between being non-racist versus anti-racist. We invite book club leaders from post-secondary institutions across the province to join our hub.
Our suggestion for your summer reading list is How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi. In it Kendi offers a suggestion of what an anti-racist approach entails while challenging readers to think about their individual role and responsibility in contributing to just and equitable societies.
From October 7th – December 2nd we will hold 90-minute sessions on Thursdays at 10:00 AM. Using Kendi’s book as a framework we will engage in discussions about the relevance of the following topics within your own book clubs:
- Definitions
- Power
- Culture
- Space
- Identity
- Society
This is a province-wide invitation to learn how to lead your own book club in our collaborative community, where candour and vulnerability are fostered in an ethical space! Hub participants will be expected to lead discussions and actively contribute to our learning community. You will leave with a greater support network and with actionable steps for how to apply and implement your anti-racist strategy on campus.

- Get the book at your local library, campus library, or bookstore.
- Read and journal your findings.
- Start a cohort at your institution.
- Have your book club leader sign up for our hub in September.
